Psychological Assessments at Aagahi

Psychological assessments have always been an integral part of psychological services. They have become even more relevant today due to the rising prevalence of mental health issues like anxiety and depression, worsened by pandemics and societal changes. Early assessments aid in detecting issues early, preventing worsening conditions and building on an individual’s strengths and resilience. The growing recognition of neurodiversity also drives demand for tailored assessments that highlight individual strengths and challenges. In educational, workplace, and healthcare settings, these assessments guide personalized support and accommodations, promoting inclusion and optimal functioning.

Too often, psychological assessments today are reduced to quick checklists and mechanical test scores, neglecting the complexities of each individual’s social, emotional, and cognitive reality. This shortcut approach, advertised as “low cost” and “time efficient” ignores the true person behind the symptoms and risks drawing misleading, superficial conclusions.

At Aagahi, we specialize in the “therapeutic” and “neurodivergent affirmative” approaches towards psychological assessments.

What is therapeutic assessment?

Therapeutic assessment is a warm, collaborative way of doing psychological assessments. Instead of just collecting test scores or labels, it invites clients to share their story, work through their own questions, and understand themselves better. Clients are included in every step, so the process helps them with real insight, gentle self-acceptance, and finding meaningful ways forward.

What is neurodivergent affirmative testing?

Neurodivergent affirmative testing is an assessment approach that recognizes and respects neurological differences (such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia). Neurodivergence means thinking or experiencing the world differently from the majority. This assessment approach focuses on understanding each person’s unique cognitive style, communication, sensory experiences, strengths, and lived experiences. This strengths-based approach adapts testing methods and environments to be sensory-friendly and inclusive, focusing on empowering the individual and affirming their identity rather than just identifying challenges.
